The head of the government, Antoni Martí, participated on Monday in the presentation of the UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships, which will take place in September 2015 in Vallnord Bike Park La Massana. The event was attended by the Major Consul of La Massana, David Baró; President of the Andorran Cycling Federation Gerard Riart; and the technical director of the event Albert Balcells . The presentation concluded with the launching of the countdown of this event, which will begin in 500 days and will entail the first world cup hosted in Andorra, specifically in Vallnord Bike Park La Massana.
Martí is confident that “in 500 days we will be able to demonstrate that our state is a great place to host top-level sporting events.” At the same time explained that La Massana is becoming increasingly “the capital of the mountain bike in the Pyrenees” according to their commitment to diversify the tourism offer. The head of the government said that this is a shared aspiration as they aim to continue promoting tourism throughout the year.
Baró has specified that this is the most important mountain biking event after the Olympic Games and has called the whole Principality to live passionately this event. In this sense, the Major Consul of La Massana has announced the celebration of a window dressing and decoration international competition to promote the event, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce.
The organizers of the event agreed to highlight the success of organizing the World Cup in 2008, 2009 and 2013, as well as the efforts in recent years to enhance Massana as the parish for the fans of mountain biking. According to Martí, is the sum of factors, coupled with the involvement of both the public and private sectors, which has made it possible that Andorra host the world championship in 2015.
